The SHS operates three special ASD classes with a total of 18 pupils. To distinguish these classes from other classes they are referred to as the Leavy Centre. We see our role as vital to supporting students with autism spectrum disorder to receive an education that enables them to achieve their potential.
The Leavy Centre seeks to be a safe, consistent, happy and nurturing environment in which students are guided and supported and where their sensory needs can be met. We support students in navigating their educational journey, offering guidance and assistance, social and emotional support. We strive to build confidence and to encourage students to embrace opportunities for a future. We encourage students to immerse in school life, take part in those extracurricular activities, attend those trips. Inclusion and interaction are vital in a school environment. They help create a sense of belonging and ensure that all students can engage fully with their peers and their education. We believe every student can learn, just not on the same day or in the same way.
