The Sacred Heart School Tullamore celebrated a fantastic achievement at the All-Ireland Schools Cross Country Championships, held at Ballybrit Racecourse in Galway two weeks ago. Competing against the best young athletes in the country, the school’s Senior Girls team put in an outstanding performance, securing a silver medal for the second consecutive year.

The team was led home by sixth-year student Andrea Ryan, who finished in an impressive 13th place. Her teammates, Rachel Donegan (31st place), Eabhadh Multaney Kelly (39th place), and Saoirse Murtagh (59th place), showcased remarkable determination throughout the demanding 3,500m race. Their collective efforts earned the Sacred Heart a second-place finish with a total score of 83 points, reinforcing their reputation as one of the top cross-country teams in Ireland.

Meanwhile, in the Junior Girls category, Meabh Duffy, a second-year student, also put in a strong performance, finishing in 32nd place.

The event, held under ideal conditions with sunshine and minimal wind, was a thrilling spectacle, with nearly 1,000 athletes competing throughout the day. The Sacred Heart team’s incredible result is a testament to their dedication, hard work, and commitment to training.

Well done to all the athletes on this fantastic achievement!
