Two groups from the Sacred Heart will take the Helix stage on 6th March for the Junk Kouture Regional Finals, showcasing their stunning sustainable designs.
Girls on Film: Transforming Waste into Art
Created by Nicola Janicka, Nia Mills Gorman, and Zoe Little, this striking dress, made from photography paper and plastic bottles, reimagines discarded materials as high fashion. The design incorporates old curtains, upcycled tops, and a hula hoop to create a stained-glass effect, emphasising the potential of everyday waste to become something beautiful and meaningful.
Field of Dreams: A Tribute to Irish Farmers
Designed by Roisin Berry and Fiadh Connelly, this dress is crafted from meal bags and green silage netting, highlighting sustainability while raising awareness of mental health struggles in the farming community. The green netting symbolises suicide awareness, and the intricate cabling, inspired by Aran knitting, pays tribute to traditional Irish craftsmanship. The dress also features a Triskelion-inspired bow, representing loneliness and the need for mental health support.
Both designs prove fashion can be a platform for advocacy and sustainability. Best of luck to the Sacred Heart teams as they showcase their creativity at the Junk Kouture Regional Finals!
