Transition Year students at Sacred Heart Secondary School, recently hosted a successful Tea and Coffee Morning in support of the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland, bringing together students and members of the local community for a warm and meaningful event.
In the lead-up to the morning, TY students showed great initiative by creating promotional posters around Tullamore and liaising directly with the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland. The Society generously provided donation buckets, branded t-shirts and balloons, helping to create a welcoming atmosphere in the school dining hall.
Despite very poor weather conditions, attendance was strong. From 11.00am to 12.00pm, guests including grandparents, senior citizens and members of a local day care centre were warmly welcomed by students and invited to enjoy tea, coffee and refreshments. Music played softly in the background as students chatted with guests, creating a relaxed and inclusive environment.
The event encouraged meaningful intergenerational connections, with students and visitors sharing stories, conversation and laughter throughout the morning. For many students, it was a valuable opportunity to engage with members of the community and gain a deeper understanding of Alzheimer’s disease and the work of the Alzheimer’s Society.
The Tea Morning successfully raised awareness and funds for the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland, with guests contributing generously through donation boxes at the entrance. The experience also provided TY students with practical skills in organisation, teamwork and community engagement.
Sacred Heart Secondary School would like to thank all who attended and supported the event, as well as the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland for their assistance. The school looks forward to welcoming the community again for future events.
